I’m the same way, I think I finally watched the matrix like….. a year ago lololllll 🙃
I’m not sure if it’s my favorite, but HOT ROD!! It’s just… so, so incredibly dumb. It never fails to make me laugh with how stupid it is though. A terrible stunt man tries to help his family by pulling the ultimate stunts!! To raise money. (I’m awful at describing it or giving you a decent synopsis I am so sorry)

pls...watch monkey bone, if you vibe with dumb crude/vulgar 2000s movies (i whole heartedly love that movie so much) its a fever dream BUT the costume designs are REALLY cool!! especially for the not-so-human characters. oh and of course brendan fraser <3
ALSO VAN HELSING!! PLEASE its one of my favorite "modern" werewolf movies and ive rewatched it a million times i dont care what anyone has to say the vfx/cgi is stil really good for that movie being so old at this point (obviously a bit cheesy with some scenes) BUT the story is soo good (despite SOME plot holes..but what can you do ]: ) and OF COURSE...hugh jackman,,

ooh neat thread idea!! i also am not a big movie watcher so maybe ill be convinced to watch something too :3c for me personally, though, i love animated movies... but i guess ill shill "one stormy night" (arashi no yoru ni) it's a japanese movie about a fat little goat and a scrawny raggedy wolf who meet during a thunderstorm and become BEST FRIENDS <3 despite the challenges of being a goat and a wolf... (not to mention the blatant gaycoding of it lol) they try to find a way to live peacefully despite it all..! it's just a cute little feel good movie! i ADORE the art style of it so much <3 you can find it on youtube easily with subs! gabu is literally the cutest wolf ever. that's my baby BOY

omg finally other people who don't really watch movies :o among the few ive watched and liked i think interstella 5555 is my all time favorite and probably will be forever, basically an hour long daft punk music video but also super interesting on its own right. it's got a really neat plot that's also a bit of commentary on the music industry, dumbing this down as much as possible and leaving out spoilers but musicians from a really music centric alien planet get kidnapped, brought to earth, and are forced into making hits for this evil ass dude. All the songs are great (assuming u fw daft punk) since its their Discovery album, absolutely no dialogue for the entire runtime and animated by toei in 03 so its got kind of a vintage anime feel to the visuals.. honestly i could probably yap about this forever i love it so much lol also you can watch it all on youtube here B)

Gonna second Monkey Bone!!! Very crude and early 2000s but easily forgotten Fraser Favorite! Also some very charming animation used in that movie, and some killer character designs.
Since we're on the topic of schlock, I'll throw my vote in for Killer Klowns from Outer Space !! Super goofy horror romp that is about a pack of aliens CLOWNS invading a small town! Some good prop work in this, a few good scares, and of course, silly kills!

I believe tickets just went on sale recently, I was considering going myself o: im obviously biased but its sooo good.. and yeah i think a couple theaters near me might be showing it as well! Honestly a little put off on going because the remaster they're showing is an ai upscale and its kinda noticeable in the promo material theyve put out for it so far, but its also super rare to have it in theaters and maybe it's not too obvious on the big screen so i might go anyway. wont go on too much about it but idk im torn lol

I didn’t see that about it but that’s unfortunate. I wish they kept it as the original. I love the kinda… gritty? look of older anime. Boooo AI, booooo 👎

Oh no, really? :( I didn’t see that about it but that’s unfortunate. I wish they kept it as the original. I love the kinda… gritty? look of older anime. Boooo AI, booooo 👎 yeah its really disappointing :( the og might not be super high def (heard the animation studio also probably doesnt have the master copy anymore) but it's not really a problem that needs to be "fixed", its fine being a little crunchy :/ also just remembered another really good movie (also animated) is Perfect Blue, more mature and has some uncomfortable subject matter but really good psychological horror/thriller about an idol who gets stalked and starts losing her grip on reality. interesting twist at the end too. dont have a direct link to where you could watch it this time but it's worth searching out imo

Started doing a weekly movie night with friends for the EXACT same reason (so many classic films people said "omg you've not seen that??" that I just comitted to doing it weekly haha. First recommendation I will make is one of my two favorite films - Don Hertzfeldt's "It’s Such a Beautiful Day". A film I've revisted again and again - and one I need to rewatch again. It's hard to put my thoughts on it into words, but I think it's simplest to say that (as with most of Don Hertzfeldt's work) it's very poignant and thought provoking. I am a huge fan of the craftmanship behind it - with all of the interesting and ecclectic animated visuals all being done by one man on 35mm film. The large mix of different visual elements help put you into the protagonists shoes, and as a result at points the film can be beautifully disorienting. A must-watch, as far as I am concerned!
ALSO going to second "One Stormy Night" - it's absolutely adorable and one of the largest reasons I'm a furry today!

Was gonna link the trailer, but figured this movie is at its best when dived into blind (honestly most movies are) Drive (2011) My ultimate comfort movie.... It's got it all: A+ cinematography, every scene looks beautiful as fuck, the music is perfect and I just love the synthwave vibes, the story is interesting and the characters are easy to love (and hate). Also cool cars and driving!! Violence warning, some scenes are quite graphic in case you're squeamish but there's not many of them.

I'm mostly an animation person but I can maybe suggest some slighty outside the box stuff.
I am always a fan of Mamoru Hosoda's movies, especially Wolf Children and Summer Wars. (both contain characters that are..furry adjacent? Though if you're looking for something from him that has straight up furry characters, Boy and the Beast has a few.) The Thief and the Cobbler is an interesting watch if you're interested in animation as an art form, as at least imo, the story is hard to follow, but the art is really beautiful and it has some insanely detailed scenes, especially for the era predating computer animation. The Brave Little Toaster is a childhood classic, and certainly always darker than expected for an animated movie that was published by Disney (not a Disney movie though). Some how it always manages to tug at my heart strings and did a great job of making me afraid of large magnets for a few years of my childhood. Still can't deal with anything horror that involves crushing though. Ugh.
