Being in the general OC space and furry fandom, names are always such a tough part of any character, at least for me, so how did you come up with your fursona name? Is it your human name with a twist? Baby website name? Maybe based on something you like?
I named my sona Kartna while scrolling through my liked songs to see if I could snatch an artist’s name and landed on Graham Kartna! The names I choose either crop up like that or I do some crazy etymology stuff hehe

My answer is horribly stupid but I literally gave them every single name I considered, until I figured out which one I liked best so for a few months time my sona's full name was Rita Playdough Kahoot McDonald's Playplace (the . mcdonalds one was a joke but it was there!). Three of which were inspired by her bright, RGB + Y color palette. I wasn't going by Rita as my actual name back then so I don't EXACTLY remember where or why I chose that, just that I did love the name Rita. But now we're matchy matchy. Margarita, Rita for short.

kartna is such a fun snappy name for a fursona!!! i was originally torn between tetris and polybius. im a big fan of the game tetris and at the time i really liked the aesthetic of arcades - so polybius felt like fun. finally i decided tetris sounded better as a character name and it really stuck! years later i couldnt imagine them as anything else

I didnt. Im incredibly unimaginative so i just went with its"myname" as my OC, thats how i go to cons. How ever i did adopt a fursuit partial named King!! Its always a treat reading peoples names and seeiing how it ties into their OC though (:

It was a nickname my ex had given me a lifetime ago. Something that sounded round and cute. I thought it fit a Guernsey cow because their milk is high in butterfat! Earnestly had no idea until a couple years ago that it was a brand of turkey or whatever because my family didn't usually have turkeys for Thanksgiving or xmas, and I don't think that was the origin of the old nickname either :X

"Sofsh" as the general name for my sonas was honestly just chosen for being gibberish with good mouthfeel (to me). I wanted something "unique" and, hey, it worked! I honestly think it turned out well for me.
Going more in depth on specific sonas, since I've got quite a few, there's "Amalgam" (name for any time I draw a creature with features from multiple sonas), "Battanram" (a bat and ram chimera), "Cockatrice" (a chicken + "dragon" (bat + lizard chimera) chimera that otherwise doesn't look like a cockatrice), "Disk" (an android wolf, named as such so I can initialize his name as "S.D." for the hardware pun), "Etchem" (a pokesona, derived from "catch 'em all"), "Fluid" (just like, a little guy with water powers), and "Geo Atlas" (a fictional mascot dragon with a globe tail, for a fictional internet web safety edutainment series)... All pretty self explanatory with context really, with the addition of an alphabetical naming scheme because I started doing it on accident and then rolled with it. I have two other sonas who need names still, including the hydra in my profile pic, but still haven't really decided what they'll be... (the hydra sadly can't be "Hydra" because technically its more recent than the other one and thus would start with "I")

Decades later I still haven't settled on a name. PLEASE HELP I CAN'T DECIDE ON ANYTHING
ok but actually, the only name I thought was appropriate was Squid (because they are a squid wow) But then one day I picked up an alternate sona (horse) and, well, the name doesn't really make sense anymore. I kind of wish I could just be nameless somehow, really.

For Nova I was a preteen and I was trying to pick a very cool, short name that would fit as a nickname for PictoChat, and space was very cool to me back then. It still is, but not as much of a focus. My other fursona Maffi's name is Mouse mixed with affine transformation, where I tried to reference the SNES somehow so I went with a description of what mode 7 actually is. Most of my other characters are named after puns or something else that feels meaningful to the character; I feel like I want to be able to give a reason to myself why a character has a particular name.

'Gray' and 'Leo' are both names I go by in the meatspace. 'Sunny's name came from his origin as an old Warrior Cat OC/Self Insert from Elementary school 'Sunstar', but since he's no longer a fan character for that series I just switched his name around. 'Draig' was a friend's suggestion when I was originally considering 'Draco'.

I was trying to think of a name that would sort of fit in with the characters from William Horwood's Duncton Wood xenofiction novels about, you guessed it, moles. All the ones I could think of were taken, but then I settled on Wicker.
That it sounds like "Wicca" and I have an interest in magic and the occult is purely a coincidence.

I actually had another fursona who was a wolverine before my current one. Actually, both started out as pine martens, I renamed the first one Pine after switching species. After making another new fursona, I missed being a wolverine. I switched AGAIN and decided to name my current one Kiefer, which means Pine, but in German! It also ties in with my heritage.

I started out as an Alaskan Malamute, but decided after a year or so that the sona didn't really suit me, so I changed to being a skunk.
I was searching about for a name that I liked the sound of, and that had some alliteration. Around that time, a furry friend from Finland payed a visit, and it his real name was Simo. I could not resist stealing it, and became Simo Skunk (his actual sona is a lynx)

I originally created two characters for a TF story I was writing and gave them thematically linked names, Ash and Olive, both types of tree!
Then, through [very long story here], they swapped names, Olive became a headmate and Ash ended up being my fursona, so here we are.

Names have always been tricky for me too but after a while I started making my characters a kind of a dictionary of words I've stumbled upon that I just personally like.
For example, Kachayet is the romanization of "качает" which I found in a soviet navy song, " Пусть качает". As far as I understand, it translates to "[it] sways", "[it] rolls", "[it] shakes" and in the song is the movement the ship makes that represents the hardships of life at sea.
Some people are afraid of pronouncing it, but I like how it sounds, the meaning and the context, so I started using it. And that applies to other characters I have too, some are finnish, others are english, others italian.
