I don't know, I just had the name Pagu stuck in my head and I figured it sounds like a good name for a panda. Later on, I searched it and found out where I'd got it from: it was the name of a Communist militant, a prolific writer for many Brazilian newspapers, the first political prisoner of the country and a hell of a feminist. I love her, and her (nick)name was SO badass.

The one I'm currently using, Shred Zeppson, was I think a suggestion from a friend since I was trying to make a radical 90's themed character.
My username is a combination of the state bird of Arizona, where I lived for a while, and FSR is for Flower, Sun, and Rain, a perplexing video game that I think is cool.

Kez is short for Keziah, which is just an alternate spelling of 'Kezia', which I stole from the critically acclaimed 2005 prog concept album 'Kezia' by Protest the Hero because it's one of my favorite records of all time!

For my characters, I generally go through a process of first randomizing a hell lot of names, picking some that sound nice or generally have a similar vibe to what I imagine the character to be, and then trying to adapt the name to have some sort of meaning in a languages that my character's culture is inspired on. For example, one of the characters I've been working on is a red panda named "Airu Hisami" whose culture is inspired on Japan/Asia. At first I just liked how "Airu" sounded (friendly and easy to remember), however I tried fitting the name pronunciation to japanese kanji that are pronounced identically, and slowly made my way into finding a meaning for the name. In this case, I settled on the meaning "Endless stream of love" (which also goes on pair with the character's backstory). I am planning on making a conlang (or many) in the future for my characters and their lore, so I can add proper meaning to names of all sorts... but yeah, don't attempt doing that if you value your time ^^"
For my main fursona, though... His name is Ruffus Winters. I simply saw a minecraft dog named "Rufus" and I thought "adding an F would make it sound even better". I settled with the name because it just felt so right (despite it not having any actual meaning lol)

Valy is one of the many ways to shorten my actual name. It's small, easy to remember and cute enough!
It wouldn't have felt like a self representation if I gave her a name too different from mine.

I've always had a thing for fire, electricity, etc. so I took the word "ember" and modified it to Embron. Also fits since I'm a redder than normal yote (thanks to fox influence) and in the world my character originated he's somewhat supernatural with an affinity for the same elements. And the last name, Caniston, is a furrification of my actual name.

"Galen" comes from three different places that all sort of contribute:
Galena is a naturally occurring mineral, silvery in color. The name here means "glinting" or "sparkling", roughly.
Galen was a scholar and doctor in antiquity- the guy who came up with the "four humors" theory actually. Very wrong about everything, as you'd expect.
And before all that, Galena was a minor but ancient Greek divinity. She was known as the goddess of still waters.
For me, Galen as a character is meant to evoke this feeling of warm twilight, when sunset is giving way to a purple sky, and the lights of the city are coming out one by one, and the lights of the stars are coming out one by one to join them. He's about the feeling of peace after a long day, and putting aside all those details that clamored for attention to let the world be its own beautiful self. So I picked a name that I hoped would carry some of the the same feeling- calm, and wisdom, and a little hint of starlight.

i find literal names very cuuuuute. and easy to come up with, which makes them even cuter to me. i love a fox named fox. i love a good dog named dog. it's so awesome brutalbunny is lowkey more of a username than a fursona name, but like, my fursona's name Is Brutalbunny... they kind of came about at the same time? i was big on the word "brutal" at the time 'cause of a show, metalocalypse, where "brutal" is kind of a meme. they say it all the time. it just has a good mouthfeel, too... so alliteration made brutalbunny. and it's stuck for years, bc she is a very brutal bunny.

I came up with Aster as the prompt that led me to come up with his design was "space-themed dragon." So I started by listing out some space-related names. The ones I can remember are Apollo and Orion. It wasn't until I looked up star-related names that I found the name Aster and just like that it clicked. Especially since no matter what, all of his initial doodles incorporated a star pattern in some way, the last two or three before the final had the same pattern that he has on his forehead now.

i struggled to come up with a name for my poodle fursona for YEARS, i was just calling him "poodleby" (poodle + my name moby) for the longest time until a few months ago i decided on cohosh.
black cohosh is a really special plant to me and an important native plant where i live plus it sounds playful and fun =]
