I've always been interested in media thats considered furry since I was a kid, and definitely pretended to be a dog a lot at recess. Oddly enough, stumbling onto youtube furry MVs introduced me to the concept of the fandom, and I quickly joined Deviantart to partake. This video is one I fondly remember lol Thank you so much for posting this, I did the drawing that appears at 1:40 and I remember being so excited the first time I saw it! I thought I had long lost this video!

Actually, as soon as I get on PC I should post its "remake" I did last year. Rave pics are my roots and after a while I periodically get back to that scene xD

My parents bought me a football VHS, but there was a mistake and despite all the packaging being right, it had the film version of Cats on it. Combine that with things like others have mentioned -- Balto (the white wolf scene still gives me goosebumps), Fox and the Hound, Watership Down, The Raccoons, Sonic SatAM and the UK comics that were basically 2000AD for kids -- then xenofiction literature like William Horwood's Duncton novels and the Wolves of Time. So in the early 00s I found myself in the fandom, made a fursona that was perhaps a tad excessive, but left for some reason about fifteen years ago.
But I was never really able to leave completely, and last year decided to fully re-enter the fandom, come up with a concept of a fursona more suitable to me, and earlier in this year started to properly interact a lot more. Felt nice. Like coming home, in a way.

warrior cats + deviantart, back in the day. when i was like 10/11 i was in a group where people turned the beatles into cats and wrote about it but i started seeing furry stuff on DA from there and it always intrigued me. i think my first ever fursona was a fluffy white cat with rainbow scene hair if that gives you an idea of when that was LOL. also being introduced to stuff like renard. earlier than that before i knew what a fandom was i was constantly pretending to be an animal and daydreaming about how nice it would be to be one and not a person, so i'm not surprised i ended up becoming a furry. pretty much exactly the same for me, warrior cats to deviant art to seeing cool furry characters. My first sona was a warrior cats insert that slowly just evolved over time into its own thing, and I think eventually I started to watch fursuit videos.

i was mainly introduced through one of my friends in middle school who told me about the concept back in 6th grade, but i think i was actually interested since i already had a big love for animals and basic biology along with my dad always playing old tom and jerry episodes for us. that and pokemon like incineroar, lucario, zeraora, mewtwo, typical ‘furry’ pokemon, who were always my favorites

I think I became a furry as an extension of being a brony around 2013-2014, there were always a few furries who hung around in the same internet spaces so I started getting more interested in them as my interest in MLP started to wane. Took me another few years though before I really started engaging with the community, and going to meets, making a fursona, etc.

Like others in here I also roleplayed as an animal in like kindergarten and first grade and stuff lol.
My pipelines were- Spirit: stalion of the cimarron, became obsessed with horses Being obsessed with scooby doo and dogs Then I got into Warriors and found the warriors community on YouTube, AlliKatNya especially got me like hooked in that scene, and started making my own warriors AMVs and animations From warriors i discovered warriors OCs and had some, and then found fursonas and furries from the whole Warriors thing. So I went from Youtube to also on deviantART. This was around 2008-2009.

i was a wolf forum roleplayer a really long time ago. when i was really young. i also got super into furcadia at the time, but mostly because the game was fun to hack on. i was one of the people who built proxies for it. over time it just became part of my identity, and that was neat. i joined furnet, i joined furrymuck, i joined taps (and lied about my age to do so...) i didn't have a fursona for a while but when i finally made one it was the obligatory sparkle dog with brightly colored hair who was a little raver kid.
i realized there was something to the whole furry thing, went to my first anthrocon in 2004 and kind of fell in love with the vibe and the fursuits. second life came out the next year, and though i didn't make many friends at my first anthrocon i wound up running across a local in SL who introduce me to the pa-furry mailing list, went to my first meet, and made a ton of friends. i always thought having a little animal guy to represent me was Fun and Cool, but actually meeting so many friendly, nice, generous people in one place at one time who seemed interested in getting to know me and willing to help me become part of their little culture made me so happy. it was all downhill from there.
i love the animal people, i love being one, i like calling myself goofy names and i like the background silliness of just talking to your friends like they're all dogs or whatever (it really is the best) but the thing that captured me is how nice everyone is, on average.

I loved scooby doo as a kid like obsessed my mom used to buy me the big boxes of graham cracker scooby doo snacks. That and Tom and Jerry where kinda like the first step and when i was little i drew my own Tom and Jerry oc which was this dog character that always defended Jerry because he was my goat and when i got to middle school i already was like getting into furry stuff i watched dance comps and stuff and I remember my best friend being like “are you a furry” and i was like “uh idk i guess” then i looked into it and slowly got more and more invested which as awesome!! but i did end up joining amino because of it

Uhhh it was a lot of different things, but in a simple answer it's cartoons, Disney movies.
Plus, I always liked animals more than I liked people, I was that weird kid that would act like an animal in recess or play the dog when we played house. And I just grew up drawing dogs, I discovered sparkle dogs, and warriors cat, and they had a fucking gorilla grip on me, they didn't let me go, and now I'm here.
And I stayed in the community because, despite it's many issues, it's a really loving and fun community, I met a lot of great people in it, it helped me grow as an artist and gave me a job.

i was really into the sonic games and then the archie sonic comics in the late 90's and from there i found places like miss sonic's chatroom on geocities, rat.org (which became the ~squeaky clean furry archive~ and, later, yerf!), and furry artists in general and immediately got sucked in lol i was already roleplaying and making characters with friends and drawing sonic characters, it just felt natural and the 80/90's had already prepped me for being into anthropomorphic stuff with all the cartoon options

Robin Hood was my first introduction! When The Lion King came out, I absolutely fell in love with that too. I found the furry fandom pretty early on, and knew furry was my people. Furry has been, hands down the biggest part of my life since I was 4 or so; just about all of my friends and loved ones are furries! I used to RP a lot on Furcadia, but after I got into my late-20s it was hard to keep that up.

For me, I think cartoons and animated movies did the work for me when I was a kid. Movies like Disney's Robin Hood or the Pink Panther's cartoons I would watch over and over. Looney Tunes had a special space in my heart too.
The more I grew, Tumblr pretty much made me really realize what I truly was with all the fanart that was posted back then, whether it was in the FNAF fandom or any others. I then started exploring more and more and interacting with other fur members, and here I am now!
