here we have,
BIRD:
bird is the most emotive, mischievous, funny, cursed, stereotypically chaotic part of me. he was my first sona, and still the one i consider to be my main one, though i love all my babies equally. for him, i am proud of the way i integrated parts of either species to mesh with each other without making him look like a visual nightmare.
ACERAN:
aceran, or ace for short, represents my logical, grounded, introspective side. quiet, contemplative, and proud, he is an owl of few but thoughtful words. i decided to keep him very simple and naturally-colored, however i do think i am rapidly improving at visual short-hand for bengal eagle owl shapes and markings, which i'm quite proud of.
CASPER:
casper, or cas for short, is the embodiment of my compassion; he's unconditionally loving, supportive, emotionally responsible, and passionate. my favorite thing about casper's design is how colorful he is. as you can likely tell by my sona designs, i trend toward natural colors. this is still the case for casper but i gave him colorful clothes to offset it, and though you can't see in this piece (was embarrassed of old ref, i gotta update it) he does have green/yellow/pink/purple markings on his right hand and on his stomach.
those are all my guys! me, myself, and i! all of these traits are things that all three of my sonas can exhibit, but i consider each of my three guys to be specialized containers of sorts to specialize in each.
(all art was drawn by me ! weehee)

ooh, I'll share !!
Do you have one fursona or multiple?
I have two-ish fursonas, the second one is still kinda in progress, but for the past six years I've just had the one, Butterball.
My second fursona that I designed a couple months ago is Burger Kat, or BK for short. What inspired them? Any specific design choices you are proud of? Butterball was designed from the jump to be an easy character to design a fursuit out of, because conventions and fursuiting were something I was really interested in doing once I properly "joined the fandom". Ironically I don't do it all that much outside of said conventions, of which I only go to like, one or two a year, but yeah. So her majority of symmetry and limited color palette were part of that. (Availability of fur colors is not something I was considering, unfortunately for me) As for why she's a cow, there were a few animals I was considering, including a cat or a bear. Even though I love dragons a lot, I don't think of myself as being very dragon-like, so I didn't think it was fitting as a persona. But cows, they're pretty relaxed, they're big and kinda lumbering, not known for their gracefulness, they like to eat... all those things suited me. Plus they're really cute.
As for Kat, she came around a couple months ago out of a desire to have a cat-sona to explore concepts that Butterball doesn't jibe with as much. She reflects my more foodie and sleepy side (and my dabbling in thc in recent years) Butterball is more outgoing and gregarious, Kat is more laid-back and likes to just vibe and be really cozy. Still kinda figuring Kat out. The idea behind her visual design is that I wanted to capture a sort of Garfield vibe without cribbing the actual style, and also incorporate some more overt food references in her color scheme. I was hoping maybe Burger King would have a funny document a la the infamous Pepsi logo redesign document and that I'd find it while researching their current visual branding, but all I found was their custom font and the fact the colors have cute names like "BBQ Brown" and "Melty Yellow". If you have multiple, do you have a Main, or a truesona?
Butterball is pretty easily my main, yeah. I'm really bad at maintaining equal attention for multiple characters. and, uh, things in general in life, I guess
Do you treat your fursona like it's a character separate from yourself, or are they Literally You as an animal?
More of the former, I think. I've just lived most of my life without her so I feel like it's just natural for it to be that way, and I'm pretty grounded in my humanity. But I think of Butterball as a sort of idealized version of myself. We're both extroverted but she doesn't get hung up on worrying about the social cues she could be missing (like I would) and just has fun! When I'm suited up as her I feel that slight shift and I feel a lot more confident and outgoing. It's really freeing. So I guess she is "me", but just a part of me. Same with Kat. I'm still exploring Kat but I plan on making a fursuit for her too.

I have three fursonas, but working on a handful more I just haven't made a design I connect with yet. Those few are in no particular order, a werewolf fursona, a gryphon fursona, and a truesona. But as for the sonas I DO have.... My main fursona, Margarita Parker! Snow leopard, shapeshifter, unextraordinaire. Pete Ross, Spider-Pup; he's a sona very roughly based on the DC x Marvel crossover character, Spider-Boy. I've connected heavily to clone characters, esp clones built to resemble someone else, for a few reasons, so it's fun to play with making my own. aaand Parker Richardson himself. He started as a Spider-Man variant OC but I grew so connected to him that he's become a secondary sona. I'm currently working on a fursuit of him!!

This is my main sona, literally me! I'm obsessed with him because he's my first fursona that feels perfect, and it only took eleven years to get right lmao, I'm in the process of gathering the materials to make a fursuit of him right now! and this is my secondary fursona, just a silly woodland creature when you boil him down to the simplest terms:

Ohhh what a lovely thread, so many great sonas! I have.... far too many at this point, I always had a love of designing characters, so if you want to see the FULL list I have a little section of my webite for it, but I'll show off the main three I've used over the past decade.
(Art below is by myself in my "too many art styles")
===
MY FOX - Dan Foxx
My first fursona - who has changed a LOT over the years. I've always had a love for foxes, and he was my main sona over the past decade, though I've recently identified a bit more with my shark. Fox was always a bit of a blank slate of a character really - never really thought much more than "fun artsy creature with a big red scarf" ;P
MY SHARK - Sam
Sam has more recently been my main sona, especially as I've started identifying a lot more on the Nonbinary side of things! They were always supposed to be my bubbly, fun loving, extroverted side! Essentially the mom friend of the group, 7ft tall, and a big warm (and sharp) smile!
MY CROW - Edgar
The second oldest of my main fursonas, Edgar is my big, soft, shy boy bird... Very cuddly and much more shy compared to the other two. As well as that, Edgar has always been closest to my actual body type. Don't draw him as much as I should. (Crows have always been my favorite bird)

Lovely sonas abound in this thread! I've only got two myself. First is my main Deckard: {Large Image Warning} Art is by Cariboops: bsky.app/profile/cariboops.bsky.social Then I've got a Raccoon character Santiago. I haven't used him for anything outside of some stories I haven't finished though. Need to get back into those lol {Large Image Warning} I bought this a while ago and have lost contact with the original artist :/
Deckard was inspired at first by wanting to change my fursona to a moose, but then after some thinking and reworking while bouncing ideas off a friend, I settled onto his current design. He's the first sona I've had that truly feels like he's me, and I'm really proud of him!
Santi is not as interesting, I actually got him on a whim from an adoptable because I really liked his look. I feel bad not utilizing him that much

@bird OMGGGGG IM OBSESSEDDDDD with Bird!!!! The combo is sick, I love when people get so creative with hybrids. And so specific with them too! And your design is so well balanced aaaaaaa I'd love to see a suit of this guy Also I love how you've used them to represent different aspects of yourself, that's exactly how I use my fursonas as well! It can be so hard to represent everything in one lil guy haha butterball I Love a good light colored cow, so good so good. Especially I love when people keep species traits <3 Availability of fur colors is so hard to remember about especially when you're not like. IN IT. I definitely did not have that in mind when I thought about my fursonas RIP... Of course BK is amazing good job with that one, I love the scribbly markings and you managed to combo all these colors without the design looking muddy which is pretty amazing Thank you for taking the time to answer so in depth that was a lovely read!!!! @margarita Hello wow rita is so unique but also feels like a good classic shifter sona at the same time, am in LOVE with the heart glasses I gotta see that. The heart motifs as well in the markings are so nice and subtle but THERE which I love, I'm the type to hide heart markings in random areas on characters so I really appreciate them heheh I love that you've got fandom fursonas, it's so cool to see when folks embrace that side of themselves so strongly!!! edit: well I can't get the tags to work so hopefully yall see this 8(

treelinecreatureI gotta say, I love a good brown fursona. Also a wolverine? Very good hitting all of my favorites with this one. Eleven years to get right he better be perfect for you!!! Exciting that youre making a suit hell yes hell yes. Skogen is also really cool, the palette is sooo yummy and I love how scruffy he is!! scorpiasharkGAASPPPP THE LIIISSTT THANK YOUUUUUUUUUUU I love the variety you have so much!!! A great top three, seriously. Foxes are classic, sharks are IDEAL tbh. Crows also both of those things. I've tried to make an aquatic sona a few times but I can never figure a design out I really think you nailed it with keeping things simple. I love that so much honestly deckardholidayI love these two, both really lovely species choices! Deckard looks so friendly I love the design a lot, also fairly unique. Hats and antlers, perfect Chef kiss combo. And I love you've kept Santiago so classic with his design. Raccoons are such fun little creaturesssss

Exciting that youre making a suit hell yes hell yes. Skogen is also really cool, the palette is sooo yummy and I love how scruffy he is!! I'm glad he comes off as brown on the screen because his pallette is actually reds and purples but it's meant to look like brown!!! His suit's palette will appear less natural because it's hard to find matching fur colors but I wanted to stay true to them rather than substituting them. I think it took so long to realize that I didn't need to make my own design for a sona and which species was right. Both of my sonas were designed by other people but were edited to my liking! I've had several other sonas in the weasel family but it took awhile to find out which was right, and a wolverine was the perfect one! I've never been happier!!! Also thank you for the compliment on Skogen, I edited his colors more drastically than on my main
