I've been longingly staring at pictures of the coast from my home state (CA) and just thinking... I really wish I lived near a beach. Even if I was penniless living in some dirty shit-shack, I feel like I would be happy living near those lush craggy cliffs and the ocean. I like hot weather and sunlight, which there was plenty of in California (god damn some of those summer days were glorious). By comparison I live in Sweden now on the side of a hill. It's cold as hell and I'm way out of my element. I'm an aquatic, damn it. I need to be around some tropical waters somewhere. Where would ya'll live if there were no restrictions?

In human terms, where I am now (minus the massive list of work to do on the house) is pretty much ideal. I grew up in Cornwall, so I miss the cliffs and the ocean just like you.
In fursona terms, I guess it would be a small village or town somewhere, with my own home being an underground, Hobbit-like dwelling on the outskirts. I don't want it to be a fantasy setting, but a sort of 'modern day' where the best elements of technology is kept at that level, even if it leads to anachronisms. Like, you'd have music on vinyl (no CDs), but also the internet (but probably not broadband speeds) and home computers. 80s here, 90s there, 00s somewhere else. But yeah, I'd love a cosy little underground home, surrounded by my nick-knacks and paraphernalia, and books on shelves set into the walls that are rarely straight.

Ahh really good question that I have been trying to figure out myself lately… I live in FL pretty close to the beach which is awesome indeed, however my use to be small town is getting way too overpopulated, gov politics suck (will not get into it here lol), and the CoL is getting ridiculously high so I am looking to leave!
Really thought about north carolina bc weather+pretty+lots of my friends there, But also have been considering NY because I love how it has a lot of nature in some areas and I could go to NYC if I wanted. Trying to find a state with a good balance between lots of nature and having a bustling city. And somehow not having a crazy CoL, but I dont think I can get all 3 lol. Id be happier paying a higher CoL if I actually enjoyed living in the area though.
But mostly looking to find somewhere that is beautiful. Really miss hiking mountains.

With you on California being perfect, OP, I enjoy the variety of ecosystems and landscapes.
My preference is close enough to the beach but also close enough to the mountains between Malibu and Los Angeles that have a lot of places to hike.
Cold weather is fun to shake things up and all, but I do need to see the sun from time to time.

Do you have any thoughts about the Buffalo area? I know there's a lot of beautiful hiking spots (including the Eternal Flame!) and we're not too far off of places like Niagara Falls and Letchworth. Letchworth Ive heard is a stunning place to hike when the leaves start changing; my brother made the drive to hike it this year. Even PA is only an hour drive away. Buff is the second biggest city in the state anyways @_@

This is such a difficult question, gosh.. Especially as someone who moved a LOT growing up, every place was so different and had their pros and cons. As I am now though I live by a massive body of water and I really can't imagine ever NOT being within a 30 minute distance to water. Driving instate is startling when I can't see the lake in the distance anymore I do love love love mountains both for view and the peace and quiet you get, but I think mountain driving would knock 20 years off of my lifespan.

i don't dislike where im at too much but i've always dreamt of living in like a cabin or something in the woods, with some mountains nearby ^^
Montana and NC are the two places with that kind of vibe i've visited so far and it was just so refreshing, lived in relatively busy city/suburb concrete land my whole life so being able to live somewhere with a nice view and lots of nature would be amazing.

I live in FL pretty close to the beach which is awesome indeed, however my use to be small town is getting way too overpopulated, gov politics suck (will not get into it here lol), and the CoL is getting ridiculously high so I am looking to leave! I feel you so much on that one. I want to leave mostly because of that second reason too. The place I'd love to live in is the Seattle metro area. I visited the city recently and I just fell in love with it immediately. I did get to go outside of it a bit so I did get to see and feel the suburbs outside of city proper. The natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest is just gorgeous too. And the culture of the area fits me very well. Yes, I did experience the "Seattle Freeze" but I didn't mind it since I get the idea of not wanting to deal with strangers when busy and keeping things to the point (Though I will admit it will still take a bit to adjust thanks to living in the south for a good while lol). And I specify the metro area rather than Seattle specifically considering how hard it is to find a place to own at least right out of the gate so I'm open to anything as long as Seattle is close by.
But sadly I can't get there as soon as I wish. It's mostly due to having to wait until conditions are most favorable for me to make the jump as secure as possible. Considering that I'd rather wait and know that I can stay indefinitely than jump now and be forced to return if something goes wrong. If anything my partner would also love to live there. We both fell in love with the area and miss it. Heck, I even got a commission of us at Snoqualmie Falls becuase we loved it there so much (Artwork by Myla Fox). We spent a long while standing there admiring the views. I do have a feeling if I moved over, we would be heading out doing this stuff more. Cries in long distance

i might live in my favorite place! i don't know though 'cause i've been too depression-spiral to like... go outside... i live in wisconsin rn, near lake michigan and in the city. like, lake michigan is 15~ minutes away if i walk. it's where i grew up and i only recently moved back... i love it here ^_^ i never saw myself as a beach person, but the coast of lake michigan makes me so happy!! oh and the temperature here is like, fine. great. whatever. i like the snow <3 holds mouth shut so i don't lament global warmingi've never been able to decide on city or rural being best. i love the vibes of rural areas, like, i was born in kentucky and a lot of my family is in that ky/tennessee area, so i love visiting there for holidays. but i think i'd go crazy without being In A City. even though they're more expensive, right? to be honest, cities appeal to me only because i need to force myself to live around people, or else i'll isolate for years. like my dad LOL HE LIVED ON A GOLF COURSE!!!! IN A CAMPER VAN!!! (obviously he worked on that golf course lol) so being in a city, with like, art nearby, and stuff, and pride fests, i kind of need it in order to stay human ... but again the lakeeee <3 and northern wisconsin is cool as hell, the few times i've been up there. it's plenty foresty there. sometimes i see furries who live in more rural areas and can go suiting in the forest, and i think that's so lovely and cool ... :3 ...i should go take a walk sometime ~_~
edit; op how did you even get to sweden from california ;_;
when i was younger, i used to idolize those cold af countries as being THE BEST PLACE to live. but realistically i know now that i would die of depression after like, 3 months, probably DX i am sending sun lamp vibes your way!!!

If it were just me I was considering: a tropical cloud forest somewhere. Never hot but nearly always warm, humid, rainy and mysterious... But since I have to balance my specific likes with the needs of the things I do for business (raise reptiles and weird plants), I need somewhere fairly warm and wet but that still has seasons, so...the Carolinas would fit best. And right now South Carolina has the least number of excessive rules on what animals I am allowed to bring with me, though who knows how that will change in the next few years.
