this was a big childhood nostalgia game for me and i'm curious if anyone else has heard of or played it! im sure at least a few people are familiar with the jumpstart company in one way or another - especially notable is that for a while they owned neopets and they also ran a HTTYD MMO called School of Dragons where you could run around berk and train/raise/customize your own dragons.
"World of Jumpstart" specifically was a MMO in the jumpstart edutainment game series, targeted towards young children. it featured a ton of different educational games, characters, worlds to explore, pets and accessories to collect, and had seasonal updates and collaborations, the most prominent probably being a collaboration with the madagascar animated movies that allowed players to explore the zoo and play a few madagascar themed minigames. it was opened to the public in 2009 and shut down last year in june.
the company mascot - frankie the dachshund. upon opening the mmo he runs you through a tutorial and then sends you off. he features in many of jumpstarts games and is quite iconic!
a picture of other characters you often see featured throughout the JS games. they age up or down based off of the age range the games are targeted towards and all tend to have a "specialty" like art, science, or reading. i really love the character design here, simple and cute! i feel like these definitely influenced me to later become a furry haha.
what is probably most memorable about the game for me is the pets, or "mythies." you're given an egg to hatch and customize and can choose between a few different types of flying magical critters. you're encouraged to return to the game daily to raise your mythie, by playing with and feeding it. it will grow daily if taken care of and gradually stage up from baby to adolescent to adult. each stage unlocked offers new ways to care for or train your pet and once fully grown you are able to send it to flight school - where you can ride it around different maps. it can also follow you around the mmo and be accessorized with hats, a bit like the puffles in club penguin. i find the designs really charming and unique, and based on gender they have different appearances as well.
playing with a "horn howlie"
riding a mythie in flight school
its really neat, and holds a special place in my heart! theres a small community of now adults who grew up on the game series and have made the mmo playable again, so every once in a while i like to hop back on for nostalgias sake. if anyone else had experiences with the games id love to hear!
