Since there's so many of us millennials here, I wonder how many of you remember module files? Like the ones found on ModLand or Mod Archive. If anyone else is into them, what are some of your favourites? One that I've always loved is this one, Now Turning In Dream by the elusive Phogy (who seems to have made this one track and then vanished). You might also be interested in 8-bit Bubsy's recreation of Protracker 2 and Fasttracker 2, available from his website.

i listened to so many of them, but i'm gonna cop out and say basically anything dance or jungle leaning on the unreal tournament soundtrack, which may have been the best curated collection of cool mod jams i'd ever found impulse tracker was my first DAW and i did my first remixes and music in it. i have a huge soft spot for the tracker way of life. these days i have a dirtywave m8 and a polyend tracker+ in arms reach of my desk to bang out tunes on, and i've done more than a little dabbling in renoise as well. the process of making tracker music is so nostalgic to me, just love it.

These were the first ones I came across:
Downloaded along with the MOD player for the first time from a Jazz Jackrabbit fansite. I've always found MOD tracks so dreamy!

Jazz Jackrabbit had a great soundtrack. Alexander Branden knocked it out the park with that one. Always loved this one: And Elwood is great too. It's been bothering me for years where the 'Neo-Tokyo' sample from Unknown Phuture came from... I had a version where I removed the 'YOU GOTTA MEET DAD!' sample lol. Always thought that brought the song down...

Yeah, Trackers just have something for them. It's not even just nostalgia but the general aesthetic of them, both the sound and in software trackers that rolling pattern. If you like dance and jungle, I'll guess you know about H0ffMan? Also, check out Thunder he wasn't always that good, but when he was good, he was GREAT.

Jazz Jackrabbit had a great soundtrack. Alexander Branden knocked it out the park with that one. Always loved this one: Hhm, we talking JJ? X3 Dark Groove is my absolute favourite out of that game. It was the first track that made me pause and just listen over and over, so perfect! The wind blowing in the background never fails to give me the chills.

And of course we can talk JJ Also, here's the soundtrack in the original format. (Warning, ancient site that doesn't have HTTPS) A new game that has a MOD soundtrack is Ion Fury.

I still listen to a lot of tracker music; in 2008 or so I used a Nintendo DS as a portable music player pretty often (with MoonShell as my music player), and tracker formats let me fit a whole lot more music in the single gigabyte of storage I had on my SD card than MP3 did. But I also just liked listening to it for its own sake; I like that all tracker files are effectively "open source" and I can peek inside at how they're put together. Joule, Malmen and ko0x stick out as some composers I'm a fan of that make really melodic music; I think I love chiptune in general for the emphasis on melody it often has, and tracker music is often chiptune-y though I have seen a lot of tracks nowadays with bigger fancier samples. Goluigi/golgi and Dusthillguy have made a lot of tracker music with weird samples in it and I like how they manage to make something that sounds good out something weird. Like sounds from Quake and an Aladdin movie in this case. If you do look into these be aware that it's not uncommon for Dusthillguy tracks to use NSFW samples (but this song doesn't). Here's a weird song I like by goluigi: Hi Police Guy.

OOOO I love tracked music :3 Every now and again I tell myself I'll try to learn to use something like protracker or renoise, but I think the workflow really does not work well with me XD.
Here are some of my favs I've come across:
The guy who made the tune in the third video has actually done some super sick DJ sets using two polyend trackers, this is my fav of those:

Another good one I used to listen to on constant repeat:
Adding to the first post that mentioned Mod Archive: how beautiful is that site, really? When I visited more often it had a different and more homemade/amateurish (in a positive way!) layout but I think they changed after the 2010s and then stuck with it ever since. It has the same palette of golden age DA and with its minimal yet industrial decor it almost feels like a sister site. I just like good web design ;3;

Always loved Network by Skaven. And yes, the modarchive site is wonderful. So glad they never tried to 'upgrade' it over the years. A composer who did some pretty good work, but never gets mentions is Liam the Lemming. Here's his stuff on modland. I recommend his cover of the Sanxion theme, and A Different Sky (2nd Version).
