my all time favs are Nope, The Thing, Annihilation (though after reading the book i think i have to hand it to the book for having much better characters, even though i ADORE the bear & lighthouse scenes from the movie), I Saw the TV Glow, Train to Busan, The Fly, American Werewolf in London, Ginger Snaps, The Ring, The Menu, Candyman, the list goes on. not horror but Watership Down is another fav movie thats pretty dark. actually here's my letterboxd lol letterboxd.com/dragontaur/list/horror-faves/ive been fixated on liminal space art & the backrooms for a long time now too, i have a whole art series about it. niche/internet/analog horror is fun, had a very long SCP phase too

Ive yet to read the Annihilation books as well but as someone who also enjoys the movie I will have to check those out!! I've heard nothing but good things about it. I also have a fixation on liminal spaces/backrooms. I hated when the internet slop machine turned it into like a playplace for lame monsters. the whole point of liminality is that its empty! Have you checked out POOLS on steam? Very cool very ambient walking simulator type game that capitalizes on that feeling of alone-ness

Oh I do love horror! I love it specially when its packed together with scifi, so The Thing, Alien, The Fly, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Event Horizon, Annihilation and alike are among my favorites
I also like some gothic horror and some more experimental stuff

Annihilation's movie is a good adaptation at least! :'3
im honestly not bothered by the kiddy backrooms monster stuff, its mostly just kids and youtubers doing it, so its easy to ignore. in fact, the original backrooms post alluded to the existence of monsters. but personally i do prefer monsters to be a rarity, with more focus on different endless environments like office spaces, malls, suburbs, etc. airports are underused, i think, theyre so creepy empty. the artistic appeal to me is the warped sense of reality :']
OH, AND HOW COULD I FORGET BLOODBORNE!!!!! my fav horror game of all time

Yeah I Saw the TV Glow is possibly my favorite horror of this year. Really breaks the mold of what most people consider horror to be. Another one of my favorites that does this is Skinamarink. A lot of people argue on whether or not it even is scary to begin with but personally it frightens me to my fucking core.

Bloodborne SO REALLL though ive never played it myself besides a handful of times and every time i did i sucked at it so i gave up hahaha. Regardless i am such a slut for that kind of gothic grimey horror. Vermis I and Vermis II: Mist and Mirrors are some books that have a similar feel to it! Theres no way to pirate them but theyre relatively cheap and honestly such worthy additions to any horror library.

If it gives me the creepy vibes, has nice themes, a nice story and/or characters and its overall a good movie its more than enough for me For istance i didnt get properly scared watching The Thing, maybe a bit apprehensive yes but not scared, nonetheless is one of my favorite horror movies and i think its a masterpiece. Of course i also like it if its scary skskks i guess it all depends on what the movie is about and what its trying to do and I Saw the TV Glow seems to be more of the experimental kinda surreal horror that i also really enjoy!

Oh yeah The Thing to me is scary but not for the gore parts.. Moreso the isolation of being on an Antartica based lab facility + the uncertainty of trust really gnaws into me. You'll definitely enjoy ISTG!

skinamarink is SUCH an interesting movie, regardless of whether you love it or hate it, it gives you a lot to think about 'w' ive seen a lot of analog horrors before, so it wasnt as scary to me as it was for a lot of people who'd never seen unconventional horror before. at certain points my friends and i were laughing at the faceless kid jumpscare and a few other moments that could be considered a bit cheesy lol, but the spatial horror aspects of it really got me. gravity not working right/objects being on the ceiling, doors disappearing, and the layout of the house not making sense, i LOOOOVE that kinda shit. and looking back on it, i have soooo much respect for the fact that they deviated from the usual hero's journey movie plotline!!!!!! i really hope movies like this keep coming out
EDIT: whoops i quoted the wrong post lol

I understand what you meant to quote lol!! But yeah! Regardless if you love or hate it, if it made you scared or not, its definitely one of the films in recent memory to create the most conversation around it; which is a feat in itself. I never watch it sober and I always watch it with the lights off and without any other intrusions if possible to maximize my immersion! Though admittedly I'm definitely an "art hoe" type of person because during one of my viewings of it I commented on the tension being so stellar that I was scared when "nothing was happening" for like 10 minutes and it wasnt until I jiggled the mouse on accident that I realized that it was paused. rofl

PPERFECT THREAD FOR ME I am the biggest horror nerd ever forever !! I’ve watched like hundreds of horror movies (probably) and the sub genre I’m into changes all the time rn I’m super into found footage like rec, quarantine, Blair Whitch (ofc), dashcam, and finally creep
but I also love creative fights and kills I FOAM at creative kills no matter how bad the movie is like the steam kill in leprechaun (I think the 3rd one) or the wrist bone kill from the Texas chainsaw massacre remake in 2022 those are both movies I hate but the kills are so creative I give credit where credit is due
I honestly wish I a new more niche movies all the ones I know are like parody levels of bad but I just love stupid d list tubi shit too like lamageddon or thankskilling
recently I have been watching the V/H/S series because Dead meat is covering them but I like to watch the movie first and they aren’t all good some are really fucking bad but I literally adore the idea it’s so fun so cool and shows off so much creativity form the directors !!!
