Hi! I'm hoping to find other people who might be interested in roleplay with furry characters, with magic and cool powers and other fantasy elements, but without dark/heavy themes or any risk of death or serious injury. And I think it's especially fun to have that kind of stuff incorporated into a present-day setting, like in magical girl media and in lots of cartoon series. I've had a lot of problems so far since most of the roleplay opportunities I've found are extremely sci-fi focused and are a lot more focused on exploring philosophical questions than cute magical critters exploring friendship.
Clover is probably the most compelling character I have for this sort of thing; she's a former human who ended up in another world as a bunicorn from Dragon Quest and she can cast Dragon Quest spells using her horn. I'd especially love to have her interact with more cute formerly human characters. I also have Rosy Sky who is a Care Bear Cousin fox magical girl.
I'm hoping for something freeform and collaborative, driven by characters' feelings, goals, fears, history, etc.; I've seen in past things that if people develop their characters out enough, you can make some pretty compelling stuff happen by having character depth play off of someone else's. In other words I'm not looking to GM and I don't think a GM is even necessary for character-driven roleplay. In my experience, having characters with depth get to know each other and build history together can be really fun.

i dont know a lick about dragon quest, but something like that sounds like a lot of fun! i agree that a lot of furry rps tend to be quite sci-fi centric, which is great, but not exactly my cup of tea either. something slice-of-lifey and low stakes, with a touch of adventure and fantasy seems like a great time!
i dont have any characters in particular that would really fit what youre looking for, but id love to make one ( especially if you're okay with bouncing ideas off of one another! )
did you have anything else in mind for the setting, aside from maybe something more modern?

I've only played a few of the spinoff Dragon Quest games, but they were enough to make me love the idea of an RPG world full of puns and silly monster designs and spell names that are onamonapotiea that doesn't take itself too seriously. I think most of the roleplays I've been involved with end up having some sort of multiverse stuff going on, because bringing in preexisting characters and playing them faithfully to their concept can mean bringing in worldbuilding related to them. And that opens up some fun interaction possibilities where a character can talk about their home or have brought items from there, or maybe even take the other characters there. So often I'll just have Clover in whatever world and from other characters' points of view there's this strange blue magic bunny with funny spell names. It could be fun to try and figure out some characters! Strong personalities seem to work well, and I've seen that you can kind of build story hooks into a character idea, though that can just kind of come naturally from trying to develop a character out and present them as a whole person who's got some goals and things they care about. Setting-wise, I think it could be a good idea to play off of stuff from Animal Crossing, since that's probably a well-known and popular series within the furry fandom, so people would probably be able to get it and hop in without much trouble. That could establish the general vibe of being in some sort of village-y area with houses spaced out, a lot of trees, some rivers and lakes, maybe a nice waterfall and some other interesting outdoor areas... I'm not sure if that would make for something exciting, but maybe it doesn't need to be; you just need to have something concrete that lays down some foundation you can interact within, instead of just kind of existing in a void.

novasquirrel multiverse shenanigans, thats fun! yes, i can definitely see the joy in having your ocs interact with characters living in totally different worlds... or get their hands on something they definitely shouldnt have from another universe. lol yes, ive already brainstormed a little bit actually. i dont want to get too ahead of myself yet though! do you have any particular guidelines youd want other people to follow for the rp character wise before i start? aside from some fun ex human critters that is i think something casual like animal crossing could be nice. there are some fun elements there that would be good for a more chill, less story driven rp. of course, if any excitement needs to happen, thats always something that can be introduced later as well. especially if these critters are magical... have someone open up a portal somewhere hahaha. it could be fun to have occasional rp events that explore outside the usual setting or introduce a bit of "conflict" however big or small. or you can always try out having occasional "non-canon to rp" shenanigans like you might see in some fanfiction.

I don't think there would be any guidelines; the big thing is just that I want to have opportunities to play as my characters without compromising who they are in order to do so, and I imagine there's other people out there looking for the same; I've seen MUCKs and such where anyone can just bring in any character and interact, and that sounds nice outside of having been unable to find any that aren't about sci-fi and philosophy so far. Former-human characters are fun and provide for fun interaction possibilities (like being able to recognize Earth things Clover might mention) but wouldn't be a requirement at all.
But I also get that leaving things wide open and providing no direction means it's a lot harder to kick things off, because it's a lot harder to create something from nothing than to build on some themes, unless someone (like me) does just have some stuff they're eager to play with. So I'm trying to provide stuff to work with to help with that, plus trying to nudge things in a direction I'd find exciting and that fulfills a gap in what seems to be easily available seems like a good idea.
I'd be open to exploring all sorts of stuff; chill stuff can grow into more elaborate stuff, and it's fun to have some bits of adventure. I guess it depends on how things play out between characters. I just want to make sure things don't go in a dark or violent direction.

I'm not super familiar with Animal Crossing, but this does sound cute and fun. And I seem to recall hearing somewhere that Isabella is supposedly friends with Doom Guy? I'd say that throws the multiverse concept wide open. Out of curiosity, have either of you heard of Wanderhome, by Possum Creek Games? I know you're not really looking at a "system" for this, but it might provide inspiration. It's designed to be more of a story-telling game (no dice, low/no combat, barely a character sheet) with prompts to help keep the story moving and make places as interesting as the characters. I've never played it before, but what you're putting together here made me think of it. EDIT:P.S.: The cheetah-dragon's cute. He looks like he's not quite sure how he got here.
