Hiya hi! Wanna see if there are any furs here who also fall under the neurodiverse umbrella (autism, ADHD, dyslexia, etc) or have any other mental health conditions ^^ I've already noticed a lot of furries are indeed neurodiverse, but I thought it'd be fun to have a thread where we share our experiences in a largely neurotypical world
As for me, I'm autistic, or at least that's the conclusion I've come to after years of living with the thought in the back of my mind, many retakes of the RAADS-R test, and my diagnosed autistic friends saying that I probably am. I'm hoping to get a proper diagnosis soon though! Cause it could always be something else, and the accommodations certain places provide would be a very welcome addition to my life

Hello! I'm diagnosed as autistic (I even have it stamped on my country's ID believe it or not) and I was on a similar place as you a few years ago... I don't have it on hand right now, but research has genuinely shown that a big tell whether someone is neurodivergent or not is how neurodiverse their friend group is. Apparently, neurodivergent people tend to stick toguether more than neurotypical people!
You should definitely look forwards to getting a professional to properly analyze it one day 'cause I think you're valid!!!

Man, that friend group thing totally applies to me- I always end up figuring out that any new friend I make is neurodivergent in some way lol, even when I least expect it, that was def the case with my childhood best friend. That is really interesting though and makes so much sense! And aa thank you so much <33 I appreciate it!

neat thread! appreciate it lots. also neurodivergent here. i've had lots of issues "figuring it out", exactly, so i don't label myself as anything concrete until i have a proper diagnosis, personally. but i believe i'm somewhere around the AuDHD spectrum. would be nice to hear more from other neurodivergent furs here!

i am neurodivergent! ive not been diagnosed with anything due to lack of access to doctors but through years of research i've settled on AuDHD and most likely BPD, OCD, and DP/DR... maybe more, idk. its nice to be in a fandom full of people who get it <:3c

I haven't been formerly diagnosed but my therapist seems pretty certain I'm on the autism spectrum, which would explain a lot. I have a lot of hyperfixations, it's hard for me to pick up on social cues, and I have an issue of perfectionism, the last of which has made it hard for me to work at being an artist.

Yep, autism here. I was diagnosed at a young age so i basically got ‘treated’ early on in my life by attending these sessions designed to help me develop and learn (or something like that). I generally try to put it behind me and don’t let it define me, as it feels pretty mild.
As for experiences, when i was in grade 9-12 (highschool) i would always try to avoid being treated as a special ed kid, such as refusing extra time for exams, refusing to go to another exam room for special ed kids, ect. Part of it was social pressure, I didn’t want my peers to know, and part of it was that I felt like I didn’t need it. I was typically on pace with my neurotypical friends anyways so I felt no need for extra help.
Other than that, I don’t feel my autism has limited me in many ways, I rarely think about it tbh.

I believe I'm audhd, I don't know for sure since access is not only really expensive, I also don't want the gov to know that since It can limit the stuff I can do or the decisions I can take.
Besides that I have BPD most probably, my therapist and psychiatrist can't really agree on if it's bipolarity or whatevers, shrug.
My neurodivergency feels pretty defining sometimes, specially when it comes to interacting with others or functioning outside my comfort, that being home. But on my own, I forget. Society (insert joker meme here) truly isn't built for us to live on truly.

Somewhat neurodivergent. I was diagnosed with Dysthymia (Persistent Depressive Disorder) and I definitely agree that society doesn't really favor neurodivergent people.

Been in therapy since I was a kid and tried most antidepressants for almost as long! I was diagnosed with the ADDs by my psychiatrist a few years ago, but haven't done a whole lot about it - I tried adderall for a while but didn't have a great experience with it. Have even gone through such lengths to try to mend my depression issues by going through electroconvulsive therapy. cannot recommend, it has made life even harder.

In addition to my flavorful array of physical disabilities, I have autism, OCD, PTSD, ADHD, lots more Ds... Pretty much my whole friend group is "autism creatures" (to invoke that meme from the late 2010s) and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Yo, I'm autistic, ADHD, and in recovery from scupulosity & emetophobia related OCD :']
I'm kind of "schrodingers diagnosed" with autism, my parents were not accepting of the idea that I might be autistic, so I went to seek out a professional under the radar. The diagnosis was made but not put on my medical record
A lot of furry stuff specifically appeals to me because of sensory autism traits, furry art & fursuiting are very much sensory based around fur texture. Fursuits are good pressure on the body, & suit heads are noise-buffering. Normally I avoid loud sounds & have to wear earplugs at concerts, but furry raves are my haven I'll jam all night with my head on TwT

i cant reply to everyone but its so nice seeing all these different experiences with these disorders and neurodivergence, it makes this community feel so much more diverse than it already is and it makes me happy knowing how open we’re able to be sometimes to discuss this stuff ^^

No official diagnosis yet (maybe ever) because even trying to get an appointment for a standard physical with my healthcare is a nightmare, let alone anything specialized...but I was the kid who thought a good time was sitting down, handing my friend a book, and cracking one open myself, and thinking that was "normal kids fun." Still on the sidelines of society because I don't fit in nice clean boxes or play by society's rules, and all my friends are weirdoes in some fashion too, so the conclusion I'm divergent is long foregone.
